Return to British Empire

Yesterday I visited British Empire, this time at the southern Europe. As more educated will guess, my daytrip was to Gibraltar, where you can see

  • Caves
  • Apes
  • British tourists.

Separating apes (plenty) from tourists (even more), especially british, is relatively hard, but by taking heaps of photos around the island, I am sure that at least one or two real apes were captured in memory of my camera. Gibraltar was nice place to spend a day, bus ticket from Algeciras, which is a lot cheaper place to stay, was only 1,66€. But when you get into area everything is expensive. 10 sterlings for fish&chips+drinks for two is almost highway robbery.

In case someone is planning a trip to Gibraltar, it is good to know that you can walk in to most places in national park (like war memorial hall and city in siege exhibition), but you'll have to pay to visit the famous caves and some tunnels digged for cannons (13€ altogether). On our way we saw couple of guided tourist groups and according to that it definetely isn´t worth it, if you can read all the signs placed around. If you can´t read, you should visit our photo galleries, cos here is nothing for you. With a bit of luck there shall someday be pictures of the apes.

There isn´t much to do or see in Algeciras, but accomodation is cheap (18€ double room, with bathroom) and today was a nice day to spend at the beach just ten minutes by bus from city centre.

Tomorrow me and Anna-Kaisa will head to Torrelominos, a classic place to spot finnish behaviour at its worst. I hope that 40 years of mass tourism have left some marks and we can buy meatballs and potatomash on our native language from illiterate spanish.
